Will the Basin Waste Fit Your Vanity Drawer? A Cabinet Clearance Checklist

Check the waste route against drawers, back panels and cabinet services.

Cabinet technician measuring clearance between a basin waste trap and an open vanity drawer

A vanity drawing can look clear in plan while the waste outlet clashes with a top drawer or rear rail. Treat the basin, trap and cabinet as one assembly. The E61 product page provides the model photograph and original dimension drawing; use the drawing for the selected model, not a generic basin centreline.

Put three drawings on the same reference lines

Ask the cabinet maker for a plan and section showing the finished top edge, drawer boxes, runners, back panel and service void. Add the ceramic top's bowl and waste position from the supplier drawing. Then add the actual trap and pipe route proposed by the plumber. A drain symbol alone is too small a specification: the assembly below it occupies space in several directions.

Check every moving part

Open the proposed drawer through its full travel on the drawing. Look for interference at the drawer back, top rail, shelf and wall outlet. If a cut-out or shortened drawer is proposed, document its position and impact on storage. For an offset bowl, verify the waste on the correct side: the E81 Left is a distinct model, and the cabinet must follow that variant's drawing.

Close the gap before tooling or cutting

Request the trap dimensions from the plumbing supplier and a cabinet section from the furniture factory. Mark any unresolved clash on a revision of the drawing and obtain agreement on the final drawer construction. Confirm the waste and outlet positions again when the sample is fitted to a cabinet prototype.

CADIA product drawings establish the ceramic model dimensions. Trap geometry and cabinet clearances require project-specific confirmation.
